Bus Service Drivers

Keep your timetable running when the rota will not stretch. We supply PCV drivers to cover local bus duties during sickness, holidays and busy periods.

Covering your bus duties

We supply drivers who are used to local service work: timetables, ticket machines, concessionary passes, busy town centres and passengers who need a little more time.

When operators call us

  • Sickness and holiday cover
  • Rota gaps while you recruit
  • Extra duties for events and seasonal peaks
  • Short-term cover on newly won routes

Making the first shift go well

  • Tell us the routes and depot when you book
  • Plan route learning if the driver has not worked them before
  • Brief the driver on your ticketing equipment and depot procedures

For short local routes, check whether the duty runs under the GB domestic drivers' hours rules or the assimilated rules, and plan breaks to match.

Bus driver cover questions

How much route learning does a driver need?

It depends on the route and the driver. Tell us the routes when you book, and allow time for route learning on the first shift if the driver has not worked them before.

Which drivers' hours rules apply to bus work?

Many local bus services on short routes run under the GB domestic rules: no more than 10 hours' driving in a working day, a 30-minute break after 5 hours 30 minutes' driving, and no more than 16 hours between starting and finishing work. Longer routes and other work may fall under the assimilated rules, so check which apply to each duty.

Can I book the same driver for several weeks?

Yes, where availability allows. Continuity helps with route knowledge, so we try to keep the same driver on longer bookings.
